60 years on - the start of the F1 world championship

This week marks the 60th anniversary of the very first round of the FIA Formula One World Championship, which was held at Silverstone on May 13, 1950. The British Grand Prix, which also had the title of 'Grand Prix d'Europe' bestowed upon it that year, was the first event in a seven-race season, which also featured rounds in Monaco, Switzerland, Belgium, France and Italy, plus the Indianapolis 500.

FIA agrees to drop Briatore-Symonds appeal

Formula One racing's governing body, the FIA, has come to an agreement with former Renault team bosses Flavio Briatore and Pat Symonds to end their legal dispute relating to Nelson Piquet's deliberate crash at the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix.

Durango pursuing 2011 Formula One entry

Former GP2 team Durango have told the FIA they are interested in becoming the 13th entry on the Formula One grid for 2011. Regulations allow for a 26-car field and the FIA is currently looking for an additional team for next season, with an announcement expected in July.

Karun Chandhok to race for HRT

The newly-rebadged HRT team have confirmed that Karun Chandhok will race for them this season. Chandhok, who has previously tested for Red Bull, will be the second Indian driver in the history of the world championship. The announcement was made during an official presentation in the Spanish city of Murcia on Thursday.

Cosworth gear up for final test

Although last weeks Jerez test was battered by rain and wind, engine suppliers Cosworth are well satisfied with their pre-season progress as their CA2010 V8 continued to run reliably at the Spanish test. Cosworth, who are returning to Formula One racing in 2010 after a three-season absence, powered three teams in action - Williams, Lotus and Virgin.

Petrov confirmed as Renault launch R30

Russian driver Vitaly Petrov will partner Robert Kubica at Renault, the team confirmed on Sunday. The news came as the team revealed their 2010 car at Spains Valencia circuit, where pre-season testing begins on Monday.
