D’Ambrosio lands Virgin race seat for 2011

The Virgin team have announced that Belgian driver Jerome D’Ambrosio will partner Timo Glock in their race line-up for the 2011 Formula One season.

February launch for Toro Rosso’s 2011 car

Toro Rosso have announced that their new car, the STR6, will make its track debut at Valencia’s Ricardo Tormo circuit on February 1 - the first day of 2011 Formula One testing for the new season. The launch will take place in the pit lane at the Spanish venue before the on-track action, expected to feature all 12 teams, gets underway.

Trophy time for Vettel and Red Bull

Monaco was the venue for this year’s FIA Prize Giving Gala on Friday, where FIA President Jean Todt presented Sebastian Vettel, the youngest-ever Formula One world champion with the driver’s trophy.

Group Lotus to become Renault title sponsors

The Renault team are set to become known as Lotus Renault GP next season after agreeing a title-sponsorship deal with Group Lotus that will run until 2017. Following the return of the Lotus name to Formula One in 2010, under licence from Group Lotus to Lotus Racing, the announcement marks the complete return of the British sportscar manufacturer to the sport, with the full backing of parent company Proton.

January launch for 2011 Sauber

Sauber have become the first team to confirm a launch date for their 2011 car. The Ferrari-powered C30 will be unveiled at Valencia on January 31, the day before the first pre-season test of the New Year gets underway at the Spanish circuit.

Williams have announced that 2010 GP2 champion Pastor Maldonado will contest the 2011 FIA Formula One World Championship for the team. The appointment finalises Williams’ line-up for next season following last month’s confirmation that Rubens Barrichello will remain with the British squad for a further season.

Another big weekend for Sebastian Vettel

Two weeks on from winning his first F1 drivers’ championship in Abu Dhabi, there is still little sign of Sebastian Vettel taking a rest. This weekend he demonstrated his Red Bull on the streets of Berlin in his native Germany.
If that wasn’t enough, he then headed to Dusseldorf where he and Michael Schumacher clinched their fourth successive Nations Cup title at the annual Race of Champions (ROC) event.

Hulkenberg out, Barrichello retained at Williams

Nico Hulkenberg will not be driving for Williams next season, it was confirmed on Monday. Hulkenberg said he had been unable to reach a satisfactory agreement regarding a contract extension with the team. Team mate Rubens Barrichello, however, has been retained for 2011.

Ferrari confirm Bianchi as official 2011 tester

Ferrari have announced Jules Bianchi will take on the role of test driver for the 2011 season. Bianchi, a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy, will be in action for the Italian team at next week’s two-day young driver test, which takes place at Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina Circuit from Tuesday following this weekend’s Grand Prix.

Button unharmed in armed mugging attempt

World champion Jenson Button escaped an attempted armed mugging as he and a party of friends left the Interlagos circuit in Sao Paulo on Saturday night.
Button, his father John, manager Richard Goddard and physio Mile Collier were approached while travelling by car from the track, where Button had earlier qualified 11th for the Brazilian Grand Prix. None of the party was hurt.

Mercedes GP’s Michael Schumacher has been reprimanded by the Korean Grand Prix stewards for impeding Williams’ Rubens Barrichello during Saturday’s qualifying session for the Yeongam race.

Barcelona day one - Sato sets test pace for Toro Rosso

Former Super Aguri racer Takuma Sato made a triumphant return to Formula One testing, setting the fastest time for Toro Rosso at a packed Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona on Monday. Sato clocked a best of 1m 20.763s to beat Sebastien Buemi, also in action for the Italian squad, to the top slot by over three-tenths of a second.
