Former Super Aguri racer Takuma Sato made a triumphant return to Formula One testing, setting the fastest time for Toro Rosso at a packed Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona on Monday. Sato clocked a best of 1m 20.763s to beat Sebastien Buemi, also in action for the Italian squad, to the top slot by over three-tenths of a second.
Next week the teams begin their on-track preparations for the 2009 Formula One season, which sees some of the most far-reaching rule changes in recent years. Tighter aerodynamic regulations, the return of slick tyres, the arrival of adjustable front wings and the introduction of Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems (KERS) are all set to make cars sleeker and overtaking easier. It means a busy winter ahead for the designers and engineers, but Pascal Vasselon, Toyota’s senior general chassis manager, is relishing the challenge…
As they continue to ponder their driver line-up for the 2009 season, Toro Rosso plan to assess a trio of drivers at next week’s multi-team test at Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya.
Force India have announced that they have ended their engine-supply contract with Ferrari. The agreement, signed in 2007, was due to last until the end of 2009, but will now terminate ahead of schedule at the request of Force India.
Five-time world rally champion Sebastien Loeb will return to the cockpit of a Formula One car later this month when he tests for Red Bull in Barcelona. Loeb will get behind the wheel of the RB4 during an official session at the Spanish circuit in just under two weeks’ time.

Ferrari’s Felipe Massa put in the drive of his life at Interlagos on Sunday, doing everything within his power to become 2008 world champion. And as he took the chequered flag he, his team and his family all thought he had done it.
Going into the final lap at Interlagos Felipe Massa was set to be champion - he was leading, with Lewis Hamilton sixth. But a late pass from the McLaren driver on Toyota’s Timo Glock gave him the fifth place he needed, and caused the smiles to turn to tears in the Ferrari garage.
