Cosworth gear up for final test

Although last weeks Jerez test was battered by rain and wind, engine suppliers Cosworth are well satisfied with their pre-season progress as their CA2010 V8 continued to run reliably at the Spanish test. Cosworth, who are returning to Formula One racing in 2010 after a three-season absence, powered three teams in action - Williams, Lotus and Virgin.

"Last week's test in Jerez was rather curtailed by the atypically wet Spanish weather,” said Mark Gallagher, general manager of the companys F1 Business Unit. “From our point of view, it was a good four days in Jerez with a total of three teams on track. This gave us a great opportunity to pool even more data from the CA2010 across three different chassis-engine packages.

“Reliability continued to be good and in line with our expectations. AT&T Williams put in the most laps of any team during the test, amassing over 450 laps, which is in excess of 2,000 kilometres. Lotus also enjoyed a solid first test with the T127, while Virgin Racing continued to make progress with the VR-01.”

The trio of Cosworth-powered teams will return to the test track from Thursday, as this weeks four-day session - the last before Marchs season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix - gets underway at Barcelonas Circuit de Catalunya.

“Barcelona should offer us an even better insight into where we all are in overall performance terms," concluded Gallagher.
