Jaime Alguersuari will retain his race seat with Toro Rosso for the 2010 season, lining up alongside Sebastien Buemi for the Italian team. Alguersuari replaced Sebastien Bourdais at the Red Bull-owned squad in July last year.Aged just 19 years-old, the Spaniard became the youngest driver in the history of the Formula One world championship, and his best finish came at the penultimate round in Brazil when he finished 14th.
“Considering that he made his debut only halfway through 2009, at the Hungarian Grand Prix, with no prior testing, he did a good job, making steady progress throughout the second half of the year, with a mature approach considering he is still only 19 years old,” said team principal, Franz Tost.
“This season, he will again face a steep learning curve, as all the circuits in the first part of the season will be new to him. Jaimes appointment also confirms our teams commitment to bringing on graduates of the Red Bull young driver programme.”
Barcelona-born Alguersuari previously clinched the British Formula Three championship in 2008 and was competing in the World Series by Renault when he landed his Formula One drive.
