Rossi starts test for Ferrari

MotoGP world champion Valentino Rossi and Ferrari - Tests 2010

MotoGP world champion Valentino Rossi is back behind the wheel of a Formula One car after beginning a two-day test for Ferrari at Barcelonas Circuit de Catalunya on Wednesday. Rossi has been given the opportunity to drive by the Italian team as a reward for winning his seventh MotoGP title last season.

After arriving early to speak to the engineers, the Italian took to the Spanish track in a F2008 provided by Ferraris F1 Clienti department. Fitted with GP2-spec tyres to comply with this seasons strict testing restrictions, it is the same car Rossi tested back in November 2008.

Despite poor weather conditions, a large crowd has gathered to watch the 30 year-old Italian in action. He will continue to test on Thursday.

Pirelli begin Formula One tyre testing

Pirelli have started their first Formula One tyre development test, with former Mercedes GP reserve driver Nick Heidfeld at the wheel of a 2009 Toyota TF109.
